Tom Bishop wins Volunteering Award

We're delighted to announce that long standing committee member and former Chairman Tom Bishop has won a long service award at tonight's Fife Voluntary Action award ceremony. Tom's volunteering dates back 32 years, starting as a Karate Instructor for 20 years guiding many to reach Black Belt standard, then at Dunfermline Amateur Swimming Club, teaching beginners and then coaching the Bronze squad for a couple of years.

Tom subsequently served as the Chairman of Dunfermline Cycling Club for 5 years until 2016. Over the years, he's organised numerous Club promoted events, including our Mountain Time Trial, the Jack Murray Road Race and countless mid week events, which attract competitors from all over the country. This is often done at the expense of his own racing ambitions. He initiated the annual Tour of the Kingdom Sportive event, and was instrumental in bringing the Squirrel Crit to Dunfermline through a combination of his Scottish Cycling and council connections.

He oversaw a period of unprecedented growth in Club membership and his style of chairmanship ensured that everyone was heard and were encouraged to express their views. His appointment to the Board of Scottish Cycling coincided with a major restructuring of that organisation and Tom being Tom he just rolled up his sleeves and committed whatever time was needed to get the job done properly.

He cares passionately about the development of the sport in Scotland, and he recognised the need to bring younger members into the Club a number of years ago which led to the introduction of the youth development platform that is now bearing fruit with a number of promising young riders. Whilst he stepped down from his role as chairman last year, he continues to play a vital role in the development of cycling both in Fife and Scotland.

Well done Tom, we're all proud of you! [if !supportLineBreakNewLine] [endif]
